Music I'm Listening to Right Now

I thought I'd share some of the music I've been listening to lately. I think it's great when people release their creations to the world and I want to contribute to spreading them further (Even if the things I'm sharing are well-known someone hasn't heard of it.

B.J. Thomas - Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head (1969)

I've been listening to this song for motivation of late. I like the part that goes, "It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me." It reminds me that things won't always go well but it doesn't mean that they'll be bad forever. I also like the part that says, "I'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining." It inspires me to get up and solve my problems instead of sitting and sulking about them. I'll probably add this one to my Uplifting playlist that I listen to when I feel down.

Czesław Niemen - Mourner's Rhapsody (1974)

Czesław Niemen was a Polish folk singer. In his three decades of singing, he made three albums in English. They're not at all what you would expect. Being from Western Europe in the 1940s (When everything became either Russia, Germany, or merged with another country) he was fluent in four languages. And just as he was fluent in four languages the guy was fluent in playing all sorts of genres. This album could simply be labeled prog or experimental but that would be lazy. It has flavors of disco, rock, orchestra, and jazz. This is what an artist makes when he doesn't have a label to please, a quota to fill, or a contract to adhere to. This is what an artist makes when he has nothing but his talent and ambition to drive him.

Until We Die - Epitome of Life

Whoever said "It's dangerous to go alone" was very very wrong. The guitars in this song shred. The lyrics are morbid but molded. The bass pounds like a jackhammer. The vocalist is so awesome he's achieved the label of the Michael Jackson of Deathcore (Albeit ten seconds ago by me.) And this was all done by one man. One man played the drums, guitars, and bass. One man wrote all of the lyrics and recorded the vocals. One man mixed, mastered, and released this. That guy did a damn good job.

Big Pun - Still Not a Player

This song is pretty fucking good. I don't typically like hip-hop but if there's one I respect its artists who don't take themselves seriously and can have fun. From what I can tell Big Pun was the embodiment of that. Also, I love women, so this is a fucking anthem for the ages. I wish I fucked as much as this guy did.

Rodney Carrington - If I'm the Only One

This song is hilarious. And on top of that, it's well-written. Rodney Carrington has got an impressive set of pipes for a parody singer. The song sounds so good that a casual passerby would think you're a country boy. Also, the video for the song is absolutely sidesplitting.

XTC - Making Plans For Nigel

© Universal Music Group

This song sounds so unique. I'm a sucker for New Wave. (Judging by all those mid-2000's retail commercial's we all are.) The opening riff sounds like it belongs in a Prince song. The lyrics are thought-provoking. Who the fuck is Nigel? Why can't he make his own plans? Is this song about something dirty? Is it just a bunch of nonsense? The '80s were weird and I wish I was alive to experience them.

Alright. Those are six songs from six different genres. If I go any further this list is going to start leaning heavily towards one genre. There would be a whole lot of death metal.

Enjoy yourself and have a good day.
